Features:

Compress PDF files for free!

To compress your PDF file, open it in Adobe Reader, select the File menu, choose Save As and then click the Save As type drop-down list box.

Choose PDF and then click the Compress button.

The default level of compression is Standard, which reduces the file size by about 60 percent. To reduce the file size further to about 50 percent, choose High from the Compress pop-up menu.

How do you compress PDF files?

Compressing PDF files is a good idea if you want to save space on your hard drive. For example, if you have a collection of ebooks that are zipped up in .zip format, you can convert those files into a more compact .pdf format and save yourself some space.

You can also compress PDFs if they're too large for sharing via email or uploading to the Web. The PDF format is already compressed, but if you want to make sure it's as small as possible, here's how:

  1. Using Notepad++ (a free text editor), go to File > Open and select the file(s) you want to compress. Don't worry about the extension (.txt or .docx). NOTE: You can also use other text editors such as TextWrangler or Sublime Text 2 (with their respective add-ons).

  2. Click on the "PDF" icon (looks like an open book with an arrow) under "View" in the menu bar at the top of the screen and choose "PDF."

  3. Once it opens in Notepad++'s viewer mode, click on "File" again then choose "Save As…" from the drop down menu.

If you dont mind downloading a big software download on your computer, you may wish to consider using Adobe Reader.

Adobe Reader is a free application that allows you to open, view and print PDF documents.

You can also convert PDF files to Word, Excel or PowerPoint files.

The most popular features of Adobe Reader include:

Highlighting, annotation and commenting - Add highlights, notes and comments to PDFs. You can also extract text from any document and save it as a text file.

Fill out forms - Fill out online forms using your computer keyboard. Forms data is automatically saved as you complete each field in the form.

Security - Protect your documents with passwords that only you know. You can also set restrictions on what others can do with a document after they download it from the internet.

The only downside is with so many features, the Adobe Reader is slower to open PDF files and takes a longer amount of time since it has so many features.
